Gender roles are still fairly traditional in much of Azerbaijan with the man being the bread-winner and the woman taking care of the domestic side of things. This comes from their religion – be aware that most Azeri people are Muslims and though religious practice is less restrictive than in most other Islamic countries, vestiges of the traditional female role remain here. The Azeri are an ancient people with strong cultural values, so men here are deeply committed to family, are polite, modest, and have a tendency to watch out for and take care of women. Don't be shocked to discover that chivalry is not dead in Azerbaijan! Education is important, but it's typical for Azerbaijanis to be reluctant about emphasizing their successes or capabilities. Azeri men are known to be hard-working and you can trust your partner to do his best to provide you with the comforts and security you require.
