Bangladesh is a conservative Muslim country, but over time people are getting more and more open and, by Muslim standards, liberal. This is especially true in the larger cities where people follow their religion in a more relaxed way. There is a clear western influence on the culture and values. Still, this is a patriarchal society where women are supposed to look after the house and children. Polygamy still exists but it is generally discouraged and not commonly practiced. The Bangladeshi has a big heart and strongly held family values.
Bangladesh is a parliamentary republic located in southern Asia, bordering the Bay of Bengal between Burma and India. Islam is the largest religion of Bangladesh, making up 90% of the population. The geography consists mostly of flat plains, with some hilly areas in the southeast. The country is also known as "the land of rivers" for its many criss-crossing waterways. The climate of Bangladesh is tropical with a mild winter from October to March, and a hot and humid summer from March to June.
