While Bhutan is one of the smallest countries in the world, its cultural uniqueness and richness are profound and widely admired. Bhutan’s traditional beliefs and customs stress respect for all sentient beings and encourage values such as tolerance, compassion, respect and generosity.
The Kingdom of Bhutan is a landlocked country in south Asia located at the eastern end of the Himalayas and, as would be imagined consists mostly of steep, high mountains. Dzongkha is the official language and Bhutan's state religion is Vajrayana Buddhism. 75 % of the population is Buddhist, with Hinduism being the second-largest religion at around 22%. In the southern border areas the climate is tropical while in the high Himalayan region there is perpetual snow.
