Many Bosnians are Muslims, for whom Islam is both their religion and culture. The family is the focus of life and these men usually marry for life. They are expressive and passionate in opinions, and value respect, love, and loyalty. Though women usually work outside the home and have equal political and economic rights, in many families they are more responsible for the household tasks.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is situated in the western Balkan Peninsula of Europe. Three groups make up the greatest percentage of the population: the Bosnians, Croats, and the Serbs. It is a country of exceptional natural beauty, with dramatic mountains and turquoise rivers, green wooded hills, bare limestone landscapes and fertile agricultural tracts. Bosnia maintains high literacy, life expectancy, and educational levels and is one of the most frequently visited countries in the region. Its capital, Sarajevo, hosted the Winter Olympics before the break-up of Yugoslavia. Climate is characterized by hot summers and cold winters with mild, rainy winters along its small Adriatic coastline.
