Libyans respect others’ privacy and tend to live in harmony within their close-knit neighborhoods. Though they come from a deeply conservative society, they do embrace and enjoy life. It is important for Libyans to maintain the dignity, honor, and reputation of their families and clans. Family is a core value for them. Until fairly recently, the extended family was the norm though today it is increasingly common for young couples to set up a home on their own.
Libya is a country in northern Africa bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. The main language spoken is Arabic and the vast majority of the population is Muslim. The Mediterranean coast and the Sahara desert are the country's most prominent natural features. There are several highlands but no true mountain ranges. Climate is Mediterranean along the coast and on the dry side, with extreme temperature changes between day and night in desert areas.
