About Me

Hi there, I’m Jack.

I’m originally from Austin, Texas and come from a very loving and close-knit family with one older sister. I’m a legal journalist for Reuters News, a job and vocation that I adore. I love living in New York and among its rich tapestry of interesting people who are passionate about what they do, whether it be a career or a hobby or a side hustle. I’m attentive, caring and a good active listener. I’m very social, great at parties and love trying new things. I would love to find someone who shares my zest for life and approaches it with intention, curiosity and a sense of wonder.

In a bit more detail:

Growing up, I always wanted to be a journalist. Every morning I would read the newspapers left spread out on the breakfast counter by my parents, eager for their insights on how the world actually works. I attended Colorado College, a small liberal arts college where people study hard but spend ample time in the mountains skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing etc. I made many lifelong friends there.

After graduating, I landed a job as a reporter for a ski town daily newspaper near Breckenridge in Colorado. Through random chance or fate or both, the available beat was cops and courts, so I spent a lot of time covering court hearings and trials. I loved the intellectual challenge of wrestling with complex legal issues and boiling them down to their basic essence in punchy, engaging prose. This is what I do now as a legal correspondent for Reuters, where I cover national headline cases and trials, including the Trump hush money and P. Diddy trials. (Google me if you’d like to see my work!) I’ve been in NYC for about eight years now and it feels very much like home.

I love what I do and consider it a vocation as much as a career. I’m interested in meeting someone who is also passionate about their work and career, or searching for their calling with intention. I love it when people get excited talking about what they do or what they’re trying to achieve, especially when I can help advise or offer my humble perspective.

I’m well-read and like people who are intellectually curious and engaged with the world. I have a very active social life and friends in media and the arts. I love going to concerts (I’m a deadhead but also a music lover generally) and elegant parties with lively conversation, but I also love raucous house parties and those nights on the town that lead to unexpected places. I’m outgoing and an excellent conversationalist, and people seem to appreciate my wit and quirky sense of humor. I love meeting new people and never shy from going places where I don’t know anybody — you can take me anywhere, I’ll make friends and have a good time.

Living in NYC I don’t get to ski and mountain bike as much as I did in Colorado, but I love traveling and meeting up to do those things with my many close friends scattered around the country. I’m always up for trying new things, stepping out of my comfort zone and learning new skills. To me, this is the essence of living well and growing into a well-rounded person. I have an easily triggered sense of amazement, because for all its ugliness, the world is a beautiful and endlessly fascinating place. What a gift it is to be alive in this eternal playground of wonders!

I am hoping to meet someone who is interested in a lifelong partnership where each person builds the other up and helps them be the best version of themselves. I’m generous and love to give in both tangible and intangible ways. I value open, forthright communication and self-awareness. If there’s an issue, I want to talk about it and work through it. I think the best way to do this is often by arriving at a mutual understanding of how each person is thinking and feeling about something, because when you understand that, a person’s actions and words become much more legible. I go to therapy regularly and think a lot about what I do and why I do it, and I would like to meet someone who is similarly introspective and curious about themself.
