The Vietnamese value system is based on four basic tenets: allegiance to the family; yearning for an honorable and good name; the love of learning; and respect for other people. These influences are what have led to the fact that Vietnamese men, in general, are family oriented, clever, respectful, and quite dutiful; they are committed to being supportive. Very different from Western men, Vietnamese men will most likely live with their parents to take care of them as they age. These familial values are explained by Confucian ideas that have heavily influenced the people of Vietnam over the years. Be aware that they come from a very traditional culture in which gender roles are clearly defined.

It has coasts on the South China Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and the Gulf of Tonkin. The official language is Vietnamese and the predominant religion is Buddhism, followed by Christianity and others. The land is characterized by its low and flat delta, its highlands, and its beautiful coastline. The climate is tropical in the south and monsoonal in the north. There is a hot, rainy season and a warm, dry season.
